Build-in-Wood (BIW) was  a H2020 project running from 2019 to 2024. It was focused on the innovative development of materials and components as well as structural systems and façade elements for multi-storey wood buildings fit for both new construction and retrofitting. Developments were tested, piloted and fully documented for immediate market uptake. Active engagement of selected cities – called Early Adopters – strengthened the spread of the project results all over Europe and the urban-rural connections. The project aimed to lay the foundation for post-project full scale construction projects using developed solutions.

Some tangible outputs of the project – accessible online – are the BIW Design Guide and the BIW Community. 

Habitech-DTTN was involved in the project as a partner, whereas Trento was part of the Early Adopters network.

In terms of skills/expertise, the BIW consortium worked closely with Trentoto deliver a digital pilot and a feasibility study for a timber-based urban tower. Furthermore, 3 capacity building workshops were organized, targeting policy makers and the local wood ecosystem to reflect on barriers, opportunities and the future developments of timber constructions in the Trentino region.
