SOURCE
Cross-laminated timber (CLT)
Cross-laminated timber (CLT) consists of multi-layer structural panels made from spruce boards bonded together in alternating, cross-wise layers. This configuration provides excellent dimensional stability and high mechanical strength for load-bearing construction. The wood is PEFC- and FSC-certified, sourced from European forests managed under sustainable forestry systems.
LICENSES
PEFC-FSC
PEFC and FSC are the two main global, independent, third-party certification systems for sustainable forest management, ensuring wood and paper products are responsibly sourced. While both certify the chain of custody from forest to consumer, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is often considered stricter and more global, whereas PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) acts as an umbrella organization, often favoring national, bottom-up standards.
APPLICATION
Cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels were used to construct the load-bearing structure of the ARV Positive Energy Building in the Trento demonstration site (former Zuffo parking area). Made from PEFC- and FSC-certified wood and compliant with ETA-12/0347, the CLT elements were applied in the prefabricated ribbed floors, roof structure, and staircase providing access to the first floor.
This solution ensured high dimensional stability, mechanical strength, and reliable seismic performance, while enabling precise prefabrication and fast, efficient on-site assembly of both load-bearing and enclosing components.
